Addictive Philosophy

What is it the makes something addictive? I’m not talking about drugs, I mean what is something that is truly great that would make a person want to shout “Hey! This is the best?” In order to understand that, we need to first get an understanding of what it means to have or make something addictive. Even more than that, what is addictive? I’m not talking about its definition, but it’s philosophy? Well as we know the definition of addictive is quite stupid: Ok fine, that just doesn’t help us at all. What is being addicted to something? Hey, maybe we’re on to something here. What does it mean to be addicted to something in the first place? Well, Webmd.com says on Video Game Addiction No Fun sums it up really well. Games: The Entrainment of Our Times

Games: The Facts:

First off, the major questions. I'm sure everybody wants to know this.

Obviously, if you want to game, you need history. No, it's not going to be super boring because it's gaming! What else did you think it would be? We need to ... like figuring out how this stuff was made, man, we're so off. We need to know our ROOTS.

We need to know the ... you got it right.

IT'S THE EARLY DAYS OF GAMING!
( The roots and history of gaming. )

Video games are found today in homes worldwide, but they actually got their start in places you would never even guess: we're talking real! In the research labs of scientists

The history
( This was taken from the history channel. )

In 1952, a British professor A.S. Douglas created OXO or tic-tac-toe. That was the first start of gaming.

Wait! it gets even sweeter!

In 1958 William Higinbotham created Tennis for Two, on an analog computer and connected oscilloscope screen for the annual visitor's day at Brookhaven National Laboratory in Upton, New York.

So now we start to get more advanced:

In 1962, Steve Russel at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology invented Spacewar! ( Yes the name is spelled with a "!" BECAUSE IT'S AWESOME ) A computer-based space combat video game for the PDP-1 ( That's Programmed Data Processor-1 ), then a cutting-edge computer mostly found at universities it was the first video game that could be played on multiple computer installations.

So now that you know some history we could move onto the next subject: How these games were made!

That's in the next post!
